We all have a set of applications we install on every new computer/fresh installation of Windows we ever have, things like Skype, Google Chrome and Spotify come to mind. The problem is that if you’re anything like me that list of applications can be fairly huge, and re-downloading and installing them all starts to take up a huge amount of time.
Ninite offers an elegant (and free – Kirsten!) solution to this problem. Simply visit the site, pick the software you wish to install from the lists offered and click “Get Installer”. You should now have a program that, once run, installs all of the applications you selected, how easy was that.
The applications aren’t actually downloaded until you run the program, slightly annoying if you want to use computers which aren’t connected to the internet (if there is such a monstrosity anymore!), but it does mean that the applications are up to date (and I’m sure it helps to deal with copyright problems etc). Once downloaded Ninite handles all of the installation for you so there’s no monotonous clicking of next and avoidance of free (I should hope they are!) toolbars to be done.
The software on offer is limited (you won’t find the K-Meleon Web Browser here…), but I’m sure most people will find a good few programs which they use daily, my count was 27, but then again I am slightly special!
Hope that helps to save you some time next time you’re faced with a clean install of Windows (apologies Mac and Linux people). Let me know what you think in the comments below.
