How Is War Affecting The Entertainment Industry?

By Alex Morris [scousiewousie] on March 23rd, 2010

Apologies for the lack of articles recently, it’s coursework season… which makes us sad. Anyway we all think this fantastic guest post by Alex Morris (GamerTag: scousiewousie) was well worth the wait. Speaking of guest posts, if you fancy a go at writing (and it’s something you think would suit Gizunk, sorry to anyone that wishes to write some long winded essay about paperclips) we’d love to see what you’ve got to say. All credit goes to your fine self and if we like your stuff, and you fancy it of course, you could always become a permanent contributor. Anyway, on to the article!

Whilst watching a rented copy of Hurt Locker at the weekend (Blockbuster is still around, who knew?)… I got to thinking about war. This stark, gritty, free-cam filmed (think The Wire’s drug scenes in the projects, but in Iraq and feature-length) drama following a team of US bomb disposal soldiers apparently cost a ‘mere’ $11 million to make, yet picked up the highest accolade for best picture at both the BAFTAs and the Oscars.

Aussie Designer Creates Coffin For Xbox With RROD

By Ben Norman [n0rman0] on March 16th, 2010

Coffin For Xbox 360What will you do when your Xbox inevitably succumbs to the RROD? If you’re lucky enough for it to still be under warranty you’ll probably send it off to the good folks at Microsoft, if not… use it as an expensive weapon in your next pub bar fight?

Well now you have a third option, courtesy of Australian designer and legend in chief Alexis Vanamois – the Xbox 360 coffin! Why you’d want to do your 360 the honour of a proper burial when ultimately it’s let you down, leaving you at the mercy of PS3 owners I don’t know, but still… the man’s got style no?

Time To Throw Away Your Xbox? OnLive Brings You High End Gaming Via The Cloud

By Rob Golding [AttackMonkey250] on March 12th, 2010

OnLiveNow I have to be honest, I have largely been in the dark recently with regards to server based gaming, unintentionally dismissing it as a window of opportunity of 3D chess lovers and Doom fanatics seeking a more sociable platform to play together and coexist with modern systems.

Imagine the shock then when I read that using the median of the imminent OnLive (albeit for US games only) I could potentially play Crysis through my TV with little more than an internet connection, therefore cutting out the fat, expensive, fragile middle man with a short lifespan that is any tangible hardware to run my favourite titles. I tell you, it was like a frying pan to the face.

Iron Man 2 Trailer Released

By Ben Norman [n0rman0] on March 9th, 2010
Iron Man 2

So I now know what I’m doing on the 30th April (take that all you Americans who don’t get it until the 7th May!), this should be rather tasty! Just found out about this new Iron Man 2 trailer so thought I’d share it with you in case you’ve been missing out.

For those who haven’t seen the original… shame on you! I can’t speak for the female demographic (well I could but it wouldn’t be particularly well researched…), but if you’re male and have nerdy tendencies, you’ll love it. It’s the ultimate blokes film, now go rent it or something before I find out you’ve not seen it.

The new film (the second of of a planned trilogy), deals with a second ‘uber geek’ who creates the expected rival suit. In fact many suits from what I can see in the trailer. Then he annoys Stark by stopping him from winning a car race he’s in so they have a massive fight or three. Now I’m sure that’s not really going to be the story line but who cares! It’s all about the visual effects (which incidentally look rather tasty), story line’s a bonus in my opinion – can I hear you say Transformers 2?

Remember The Milk – Web Based To Do List

By Ben Norman [n0rman0] on March 4th, 2010

Remember The Milk - New age to do lists

My memory is horrendous, no worse than that… Put it like this, I’m one step away from writing whatever I wish to remember in permanent ink on my forehead. Now, what was I talking about again?

All jokes aside, if I find anything that can aid me in my quest to be able to actually remember something, I’m certainly going to check it out. The other day I found out about a website called Remember The Milk which promised to do just that with a web based to-do list.

First things first – it looks nice and friendly. Who wouldn’t want to use a website with a cool logo like that?! The whole interface, right from the sign up page, makes you want to use it. All you need to do to get started is go through a standard “enter your email here” etc. and you’re set.

Right, so you’ve signed up and logged in, now what? Well that obviously depends on what you want to use the site for. I think there’re two main ways to use it; as an out and out to-do list, or as a replacement for your main calender. I already use Microsoft Exchange to sync my Google Calender to my phone and so am only really interested in the to-do list part. It works fairly well as a full calender, but Google tend to take some beating.
